What it is

An e-Visa (electronic visa) is a genuine visa issued through a government website rather than a physical stamp collected from an embassy. Once approved, it is linked to your passport electronically, and you show the confirmation on arrival.

How to get one

You apply on the destination's official e-visa portal: fill in the form, upload your passport, a photo and any required documents, pay the fee, and receive an approved visa by email to print or keep on your phone.

How long it takes

Processing usually takes a few business days, and many portals offer a faster rush option for a higher fee. Apply well before departure — airlines will not let you board without an approved e-visa.

How it differs from other visa types

Unlike a visa on arrival, an e-visa must be approved BEFORE you fly. Unlike an eTA, it is a full visa — normally with a fee and document requirements, not just a quick travel authorisation.
